Edgar Janunts

Edgar Janunts studied biomedical engineering (B.Sc. & M.Sc.) and made a doctoral degree as a Max-Planck Fellow at the university of Erlangen-Nuremberg in medical physics with a focus in optical imaging technologies, and meantime has over 15 years work experience in ophthalmic industry. He made internships in Lausanne Technical University in Switzerland and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. Before starting a PhD study, he was a technical head of a medical center for 1.5 year, specialized in laser treatments for visual corrections. After obtaining the PhD degree, Dr. Janunts was leading various cutting edge interdisciplinary scientific projects at the university eye hospital of Saarland as a post-doctoral researcher from 2010 through 2014. In the recent years, he also served as a Medical Science Liaison Manager at Alcon Pharma GmbH in Freiburg, Germany, one of the worldwide leading players in ophthalmic industry, which was belonging to Novartis AG. He was responsible for a clinical management of an innovative glaucoma implant in the German market.

After leaving the university research, Edgar Janunts has founded AkknaTek, an innovative medtech startup company specialized in cataract treatment, and since then leading the company with hands-on in technical development, regulatory, and business development. He holds international certificates for project management and business administration
