As well as being a Biology Professor at the University of Jyväskylä, Marja is an innovator and founder of the biotechnology start-up BiopSense. As an experienced academic with over 90 publications and two patent families, she recognises the need to create multidisciplinary teams and bring the academic and entrepreneurial world’s closer together to solve global challenges. Marja’s vision is to provide better cancer care paths for patients, and her research focuses on bringing scientific inventions from lab to prototype and products on the market. BiopSense is developing radically new techniques for blood sample preparation and transport. As an EIC Transition Challenge project coordinator, Marja is open to sharing her experience with aspiring EIC awardees.
