The European Innovation Council (EIC) received 25 submissions for the €20 million action to support the Ukrainian innovation community. The initiative will support at least 200 Ukrainian deep tech start-ups with up to €60,000. In addition, the EIC will offer Ukrainian innovators with non-financial support, such as business advisory services and matchmaking. This will enhance their capacity to interact with the European innovation ecosystem and benefit from the European financing instruments to enter new markets and create growth.
Next steps
Around November, the EIC will select a pan-European network of start-up associations, collaborating with at least one Ukrainian innovation stakeholder and seeking synergies with relevant EU initiatives. From early 2023, €60 000 grants will be allocated to Ukrainian start-ups.
New Ukraine-based EIC ambassador
Also today, Ukraine-based Sergey Sereda has been appointed as an EIC Ambassador. EIC ambassadors act as a voice for the EIC in the Member States, and provide feedback from all corners of the innovation ecosystem. Sergey Sereda is co-founder and managing partner of EIC Accelerator beneficiary PIPES.one, which has developed a unique technology to create improved quality pipes on-site, for faster, cheaper and greener construction projects.
