Taavi Madiberk

Biography

Chief Executive Officer, Co-Founder, Skeleton Technologies

Taavi Madiberk is the CEO & Co-Founder of Skeleton Technologies, a Global Cleantech 100 company and a European leader in high-power, fast-charging energy storage for transportation, grid, automotive, and industrial applications. Skeleton’s supercapacitors and SuperBattery decrease CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, improve power quality, and empower wider electrification of the biggest industries globally, with a clear focus on hard-to-decarbonize sectors.

Skeleton Technologies Group currently employs more than 300 people and has four main locations: its HQ, electrical engineering and module development in Tallinn (Estonia), its supercapacitor manufacturing in Großröhrsdorf (Germany), its materials development in Bitterfeld-Wolfen (Germany), and its future new factory in Markranstädt (Germany).

Taavi co-founded the company at the age of 21 in Estonia. Since its inception, Skeleton has raised over 300 M EUR from investors such as Marubeni Corporation, Siemens, Innoenergy - Europe's top cleantech investor – as well as executives from CAF group and co-founders of Adyen, Wise, and Ctek. Skeleton’s customers list includes Siemens, CAF, Skoda Electric, Honda Performance Development, Martinrea Effenco, the European Space Agency, among others.

Skeleton’s energy storage and battery technologies use the company’s patented “curved graphene” material, developed and produced by Skeleton’s subsidiary, Skeleton Materials. This innovative material provides Skeleton’s products with an unparalleled advantage in power and energy density, while making them free from cobalt, copper, nickel, or graphite. Skeleton Technologies is the only European battery company producing both its energy storage devices and its own raw material based on a widely-available low-cost material sourced in Europe. This technology is key for Europe’s strategic autonomy and has been awarded the European Inventor of the Year Award in 2022 by the European Patent Office.

Prior to Skeleton Technologies, Taavi Madiberk has served as the youngest ever Chairman of the Supervisory Board in an European national railway company - Estonian Railways Ltd (AS Eesti Raudtee) - from 2012 to 2014. He was also a Member of the Supervisory Board of RKAS, a Estonian state-owned real estate company with over 400 M EUR of assets.
