Teresa Neves

Biography

Teresa Neves is an academic and entrepreneur with almost 30 years of experience in the fields of innovation, communication, emerging technologies, and education. Teresa graduated in Biochemical Engineering pursuing Molecular Biology research at the University of St Andrews and was awarded a PhD in Protein Biophysics and Biophotonics. Teresa has been a co-founder and Chief Science Advisor of BioNanoPhotonics A/S, pioneering a competitive UV-light based method for the production of micro-arrays and bio-functionalized nanoparticles-based drug delivery systems.

Teresa has established Laser Lab facilities, among which a key laser facility associated to LaserLab Europe. While an Associate Professor at Aalborg University and a Principal Investigator at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, leading the BioPhotonics group, Teresa has been working on the interaction between light and biomolecules within nanomedicine, pursuing the development of a new photonic cancer therapy.

Teresa has participated in EU projects successfully engineering biosensors and point-of-care devices for the detection of disease markers. Teresa is a Program Committee Member since 2004 within the Bios session on SPIE Photonics West meeting and has been working for the European Commission in the past 8+ years.
