European Innovation Council joins forces with EPO to combat cancer

The European Innovation Council (EIC) is supporting high risk and disruptive innovations that may present new breakthroughs in combatting cancer. Just as much as such innovations are needed to fight cancer, the technologies behind the innovations need patents to protect the ideas of researchers and help them to find their way to the clinic. With this objective in mind, the EIC and the European Patent Office (EPO) are increasingly collaborating. This win-win collaboration will bring Europe further in combating cancer in the era of precision oncology.

At the Combatting cancer: how innovation actors are changing the landscape | Epo.org webinar organized by EPO on 1 February 2024,  EIC Programme Manager for Health and Biotechnology, Iordanis Arzimanoglou presented the 2023 EIC Accelerator challenge-based call Novel biomarker-based assays to guide personalised cancer treatment. This challenge aims to generate new knowledge paving the way for biomarker-based guided cancer treatment. Jan-Willem Van de Loo, Senior Expert at the European Commissions’ directorate general for research and innovation and involved in the European Mission on Cancer, was interviewed in the same event. Furthermore, the EPO presented their new Deep Tech Finder tool which allows to identify cancer researchers in Europe and their specific research areas.

A recording of the event, which attracted over 2300  participants from 65  countries can be watched here: Combatting cancer: how innovation actors are changing the landscape.
