The semiconductor sector owes much of its growth to the electronic design automation (EDA) industry. However, chip designs have become increasingly complex, requiring extensive verification and testing before manufacturing to avoid costly re-spins and additional engineering hours. Current EDA tools, which rely on central processing unit technologies, are energy-inefficient and expensive. They also require long processing times for results.
In this context, the EU-funded HyperPV project will develop the first graphics processing unit (GPU)-powered physical verification framework based on a high performance computing design rule checking engine. By leveraging the power of GPUs, the project aims to overcome the current obstacles in the chip design lifecycle and deliver more efficient and cost-effective EDA tools.
