Barry has expertise in in both pharmaceutical and medical device translational research & development, with awards and impacts achieved in in both fields in both academia and now industry. As a researcher he worked on novel medical image technologies and pharmaceutical strategies to treat chronic pain. The latter has resulted in Relevium Medical – a spinout from the University of Galway. Relevium have benefited from EIC-Transition funding to develop their RM-010 technology for osteoarthritic pain. This has seen Barry move from academic researcher to technical lead in a fast-moving start-up environment putting him at the interface of innovation, commercialisation, and research.
