Comptek Solutions is pioneering next-generation passivation technology for compound semiconductors, enhancing efficiency, reliability, and yield in lasers, µLEDs, sensors, power electronics and more. Their patented Kontrox™ process overcomes the limitations of conventional methods by eliminating native oxides and minimizing surface defects.
Backed by the EIC, they have developed and completed the installation of a state-of-the-art pilot line for 200mm wafers, integrating their unique Kontrox™ passivation process with industry-standard methods.
This platform accelerates the industrial adoption of the sustainable passivation solution, supporting high-performance power and optoelectronic devices for global markets.
Vision & ImpactThe pilot line validates Comptek’s unique Kontrox™ passivation technology on larger substrates, enabling scalable industrial deployment. Its integration with plasma-enhanced ALD significantly reduces surface defects and creates an ultra-sharp III-V interface—boosting performance, yield, and manufacturability of next-gen compound semiconductors.
CollaborationThe project was selected for the EIC Accelerator in 2021 and received strategic equity investment from the EIC Fund during their 2023 Series A. This support enabled the successful design and installation of a pilot line for high-volume semiconductor passivation, strengthening European leadership in advanced materials processing and semiconductor innovation.
What's nextThe pilot line has attracted strong interest, with 2025 trial capacity with several major manufacturers fully booked. Next steps toward mass production include customer-specific integration and technology optimisation under development agreements with leading equipment makers, alongside continued innovation in process efficiency and sustainability.
