Company name: vorteX-io
Project name: WHYLD (Worldwide HYdrological Large-scale Database)
EU Contribution: € 2 499 999
Location: France

Backed by the EIC Accelerator, Project WHYLD lays a foundation for equipping rivers worldwide with vorteXio's compact, space-technology-derived micro-stations, delivering real-time water height, velocity and temperature data, in areas where monitoring was previously difficult. Piloted across France and Croatia with national water agencies, WHYLD strengthens flood early-warning systems and engages citizens in reconnecting with their rivers, turning a natural hazard into a shared, manageable risk.
Vision & ImpactAt vorteX-io, we believe better insight into water is key to protecting our territories. We transform hydrological data into decision-making tools, helping public stakeholders understand their watercourses, anticipate droughts and floods, and manage water sustainably.
CollaborationBeyond the €2.5M grant, EIC was transformative for us: hands-on guidance from Project & Technical Officers Elitsa Beyska and Dr Stefano Dietrich, trust built in our R&D and tech credibility, plus innovation ecosystem matchmaking via events such as Région Occitanie EIC Info Day, EIC Summit.
What's next ?Building on WHYLD, vorteX-io is scaling toward Whyld2030: deploying more than 10,000 micro-stations worldwide by 2030, while accelerating our core business and expanding B2G partnerships across four continents to build a global real-time hydrological network.

The EIC backed more than just a sensor: it supported a new way of listening to rivers, enabling us to build a real-time river forecasting and early-warning database to help prevent floods and droughts driven by climate change. Through the EIC’s support, we gained the validation and network needed to turn a promising concept into a technology deployed on rivers across four continents, while growing our team from 15 to more than 35 people in just two years. This credibility also contributed to our €8.5 million Series A funding round in 2026, enabling us to scale our technology and strengthen public infrastructure for greater climate resilience.
