Karl Nehammer serves as Vice President of the European Investment Bank Group (EIBG) since 1 September 2025. Vice-President Nehammer’s areas of oversight in the EIBG include primarily TechEU, Life Sciences, Digital Economy, Net Zero & Disruptive Technologies. He oversees financing operations in Austria, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, EFTA countries (Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland) as well as Eastern Neighbourhood (Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia & Azerbaijan). He is also the EIB Governor of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Oversight of the Group’s Digital Ambition as well as responsibility for relations with the Nordic Investment Bank are also in VP Nehammer’s portfolio in the Bank.

Prior to joining the EIBG, Mr Nehammer was the Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria between 2021-2025. Previously, he was the Federal Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Austria 2020-2021 and Member of the National Council (Austrian Parliament) 2017-2020.

He holds a Master of Science in Political Communication.
