Sonia M. García Blanco

Sonia M. García Blanco graduated from the Escuela Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (ETSIT) de Madrid in 1999. After complete her MSc thesis at the IBM Almaden research center and her PhD at the University of Glasgow, she moved to Canada where she work as post-doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto and as staff member at the Institute National d’Optique (INO) in Québec City. In 2010 she joined the University of Twente, where she leads the Integrated Optical Systems (IOS) group developing different sputtered materials and integration technologies for integrated photonics. She is recipient of an ERC Consolidator Grant (2015), and ERC Proof-of-concept grant, and an EIC Transition grant (ALUVia). She has coordinated several European projects. In 2022, she co-founder ALUVIA Photonics to commercialize photonic integrated circuits (PICs) in the aluminium oxide platform.
