Sparrow Quantum (SQ) is a Danish company pioneering light-matter interfaces for next-generation quantum technologies. Founded in Copenhagen in 2015 as a spin-out from the Niels Bohr Institute, the company builds on more than two decades of pioneering research led by Professor Peter Lodahl. Sparrow Quantum develops photonic quantum chip technology based on deterministic single-photon sources (SPS) that deliver industry-leading performance and are trusted by leading quantum researchers and technology companies worldwide.
Through the QPAIR project, Sparrow Quantum will industrialise the Sparrow Entanglement Single-Photon Source (eSPS) - a breakthrough photonic chip capable of generating high-quality entangled photons on demand. Building on the company’s leading SPS technology, the eSPS is designed to overcome one of the biggest challenges in quantum technology: creating reliable entanglement in a scalable and energy-efficient way. Unlike today’s probabilistic photon sources, which require large and complex hardware systems, the eSPS enables stable, high-fidelity entanglement in a compact photonic platform.
With support from the EIC Accelerator blended finance programme, Sparrow Quantum will optimise the performance of the eSPS, validate the technology together with leading hardware partners, and prepare the product for commercial deployment and industrial scale-up. QPAIR will strengthen Europe’s position in quantum photonics and help build a resilient European supply chain for advanced quantum hardware. By enabling smaller, more reliable, and more energy-efficient quantum systems, the project will support Europe’s technological sovereignty and reinforce its leadership in deep-tech innovation.
