WATCHPLANT has developed a biohybrid system based on plants for in-situ environmental monitoring. By equipping plants with wearable sensors and IA, it transformed them into smart biohybrid organisms capable of analysing sap in situ and in real time at an early stage. A top EU consortium integrated plant physiology, microtechnologies, simulation, bioelectronics, AI, and sensor engineering to measure plant status as indirect measurement of the environment their inhabit. Key achievements detecting air quality through plant health were made by integrating: electrochemical and wearable biosensors, a phytonode for AI models, and an Orange Box for autonomous data collection and communication.
