Innovation across scales: surfing the quantum wave and making waves for construction transitions

The decisions you make now for your early-stage company will shape your future. This workshop will explore the pros and cons of each early stage and growth funding approach with the aim to help you identify which type of investment aligns best with your company's stage of development, goals, and financial needs. We will discuss with experienced investment managers of the EIC Fund and not only to provide you with practical insights and actionable strategies to navigate the complex landscape of business financing, ultimately empowering you to make informed decisions to propel your ventures forward.

Teaming up for IP Excellence – IP Management and Valorisation strategies

Workshop room 2

Valorising research results and scientific knowledge is key to delivering new solutions that benefit society and economy. Proficient intellectual property (IP) management is one of the major facilitators (in fact, prerequisites) of enhanced knowledge valorisation, which ensures additional value is created from projects depending on each specific project proposal and type of action (EIC Pathfinder/Transition/ Acceleration). This interactive workshop is designed around questions and answers for the speakers regarding protection, dissemination activities, open access and open science, licensing activities, ownership of results, etc., providing the audience with useful in information and tools that should allow them to make thoughtful decision regarding IP valorisation.

From researcher to entrepreneur – what does it take?

Workshop room 3

The deep tech innovation journey is an amazing, high risk trip. There is not a recipe to make it successful but there are some rules that we need to follow. Besides the rules, there is the possibility to share other’s experiences. The session is aimed at showing different ecosystem of innovation actors’ challenges and opportunities within their deep tech innovation journey, as well at sharing some of their experiences in performing innovation in different domains, such as space, cleantech and construction. In conclusion the session is a 45mins journey to help all the EU stakeholders of the ecosystem of innovation to better understand which are the main challenges/opportunities of the deep tech innovation journey.

Sustainability analysis as an enabling tool for deep tech innovation

Workshop room 1

Sustainability analysis is a way to combine the three dimensions of economic, environmental and social impact of technologies and products. Such an analysis may soon become a pre-requisite to both design and commercialize products. This workshop is aimed at showing why this is happening and how companies and scientists may implement it. This will be done through sharing experiences from different EU ecosystem of innovation stakeholders and discussing with them in a Q&A session.

Regulatory Sandboxes – how do they work and first practical experiences

Workshop room 2

Innovators are often challenged when aligning their unique solutions with relevant laws and policies. This is when regulatory sandboxes come into play. Set up as temporary experiments, regulatory sandboxes test innovations in a controlled real-world environment under the supervision of a competent authority. While their use is still limited, regulatory sandboxes have already helped innovators and their novel ideas in various sectors and countries. In this session, we will show you how this tool can support innovators in their journey towards easier market uptake.

The EIC Pathfinder and the EIC Transition schemes support European innovators to bring breakthrough technologies from the lab to market. In addition to the funding support the EIC provides specific services that can support the EIC beneficiaries in building their team, addressing business challenges, and hopefully establishing a new venture. In this EIC Summit session we will hear from EIC  researchers proto-entrepreneurs how they have acquired critical skills that helped them build a viable business model and how they have connected with valuable service providers that supported their venture development.

EMA: Health biotech- overcoming barriers in regulation, the case of precision oncology

Workshop room 2

Regulation should be a gatekeeper for public heath as well as an enabler of innovation. EMA offers a series of services to SMEs and academic researchers to be better prepared for what is expected from the regulatory perspective in connection with their medical product. The workshop will cover a general description of these services followed by a focus in the area of precision oncology.  Selected actions and the EIC portfolio in precision oncology will be described and an overview of the regulatory framework in the same area will be presented.

The EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA): opportunity engine for European startups

The EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which aims to make digital markets fairer, will open several unprecedented opportunities for startups and investors in the EU.
